Saigon and Dieu Giac Pagoda Orphanage
Duration: 8 hours
Your local representative will greet you at the port for a tour that will show you the full spectrum of life in Vietnam.
You will spend your morning touring the highlights of Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City with your local guide.
The tour will begin at the fascinating Reunification Palace, which has been preserved almost exactly as it was in April 1975 when the gates were stormed as the Vietnam War ended.
You will also have the opportunity to visit the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Old Post Office, which are both stunning examples of the French influence and architecture in Vietnam.
The morning tour will conclude with a visit to Cholon, Ho Chi Minh’s bustling Chinatown. Here, among the 400,000 Chinese residents, you will see charming temples and impressive pagodas, including the Thien Hau Pagoda, dedicated to the lady of the sea.
You will have time to dine at a local Vietnamese restaurant for a taste of the native cuisine. The afternoon will be dedicated to assisting the local community by visiting a local orphanage.
Your guide will accompany you to either the Thi Nghe orphanage or the Dieu Giac Pagoda orphanage. You will spend the afternoon with the children, some of whom are living with the adverse effects of exposure to Agent Orange. You will spend your time playing with the children, helping them learn English, or assisting them while they learn handicrafts, such as knitting and embroidery. In addition to giving these children your time, your visit will include an $80.00 donation to the orphanage. This donation is included in your trip cost and will help the orphanage care for the children after your visit has ended.
After your visit, time permitting, you will stop at the local Ben Thanh Market where travelers and locals shop for food, textiles and crafts.
As you depart the city and return to the ship, you can reflect on the wonderful sights you saw, your meaningful contribution to the local community, and the time you spent in this remarkable city.
